羽裏に描かれているのは、名物裂という茶道具の袋として使われたアイテムです。
茶道の世界で非常に珍重されてきた、室町時代から江戸時代初期にかけて日本に輸入された最高級の織物のことです。
名物裂は、遠い異国から渡ってきた最高級の織物が、日本の茶人たちの洗練された美的感覚によって見いだされ、茶道具の一部として大切に受け継がれてきた「布の骨董品」と言えます。その小さな一片の布に込められた歴史や物語も、茶の湯の大きな魅力の一つとなっています。
